Vikings sign ex-Gophers Mo Ibrahim, Chuck Fiilaga

The Minnesota Vikings have added some roster depth ahead of the final preseason game this weekend.

Thursday, the club officially signed a pair of former Minnesota Gophers in running back Mo Ibrahim and offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga.

To make room for them on the roster, the Vikings cut cornerback Jacobi Francis and also waived tight end Trey Knox with an injury designation.

Ibrahim was a standout during his Gophers career, setting program rushing records for career yards (4,668) and total touchdowns (53) among others.

He joined the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent and was elevated for a game against Baltimore last October but suffered a hip dislocation. Now healthy, Ibrahim will try to show he’s worth a spot on some team with a solid performance this weekend.

Filiaga spent this spring with the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL after his collegiate career with Michigan and Minnesota. San Antonio’s team was coached by Wade Phillips, the father of Vikings offensive coordinator Wes Phillips.

The Vikings wrap up the preseason on Saturday in Philadelphia. Kickoff is set for noon.
