As a Miami football fan, what would you consider a reasonable 2024 win total?

Are you steadfast with your answer or do you feel like it’s not easy? For some, they believe it’s an easy choice. Here’s an example.

On3 writer Andy Staples has an interesting take on the subject, as a Miami fan asks him on X for his thoughts on this very question. Here’s the crux of Staples’ response.

“Now usually this is a little bit harder,” Staples says. “Just naming the win total when it comes to a successful year, or is a coach going to keep his job or get fired? I feel like this one is pretty easy though.

“You look at Miami’s schedule, you look at the roster, you look at where Mario Cristobal is in Year 3, a double-digit win season is a success. Miami has only had one of those since 2010. That was 2017.

“A 10-win season, and I’m talking about regular season not including the bowl game is a success.”

What do you, the Miami fan, think of Staples’ answer? Many in the media believe the Canes will do well, but do you?

For reference, former Alabama quarterback and 2009 national champion Greg McElroy has the Hurricanes as his #3 seed in this upcoming College Football Playoff.

McElroy is all-in on the Canes. What about you?

To make your own prediction, AllHurricanes has a poll where you may give your take:

If you do not feel ready to cast a vote, here are a few points to consider, both good and bad, for Miami.

    • Miami’s 2024 schedule does not include Clemson, North Carolina State, North Carolina, or Notre Dame (the game was canceled to be played during a different season).
    • The Canes will go through a difficult two-game stretch including at Louisville and then hosting Florida State.
    • Miami’s offensive line should be one of the nation’s best with at least a few of them likely being future NFL draft picks. In fact, just about every position group has future pro football players.
    • While the offensive line could be great, there need to be answers about UM’s overall team discipline. Last season, the Canes would finish 95th nationally in penalties , per CFB Stats.
    • Adding quarterback Cam Ward will probably pay dividends in the passing and running game. He is a proven talent.
    • Ward still comes into 2024 after committing 14 fumbles last year for Washington State, per Pro Football Focus.
    • Mario Cristobal and his staff are proven recruiters, helping the Hurricanes establish one of the best rosters in the ACC and possibly an overall group worthy of College Football Playoff consideration.
    • Many, including some Miami fans, will still point to Cristobal’s lack of in-game decision-making as taking away from the talent, noting last year's Georgia Tech debacle as a prime point.

Overall, a Miami fan has reasons to choose the Canes finishing with any one of the above choices. What will Miaim’s 2024 record be?
