49ers News: Logan Thomas Officially Re-Signs With Niners

The San Francisco 49ers have re-signed tight end Logan Thomas to a one-year deal, just two weeks after parting ways with him. This move comes as the team seeks to bolster its depth behind star tight end George Kittle.

Thomas, 33, originally joined the 49ers in June after being released by the Washington Commanders. However, he was let go on August 9 due to a hamstring injury that limited his performance during training camp. Last season, he played in 16 games for Washington, recording 55 receptions for 496 yards and four touchdowns.

Over his career, Thomas has accumulated 219 catches for 2,002 yards and 16 touchdowns across 94 games, including 57 starts. He began his professional journey as a quarterback at Virginia Tech before transitioning to tight end in the NFL. His previous teams include the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and the Commanders.

In a related move, the 49ers waived safety Tayler Hawkins, who had been with the practice squad since late August 2022 and played in one game last season.
