CFB Fans Blast Desmond Howard For Suggesting Outlandish Ryan Day Replacement

Many have speculated over the idea that Ohio State head coach Ryan Day may be on the hot seat if he cannot defeat Michigan and get the job done this season. However, Day has the highest win percentages among active head coaches in College Football since taking over the Buckeyes job.

Day has managed to maintain a 56-8 overall record, with an 87.5% win percentage. However, he has lost to Michigan in three straight seasons and is 1-3 in the college football playoffs. Nonetheless, College Gameday analyst and former Michigan star, Desmond Howard , suggested an odd scenario that surely left fans wary.

On ESPN’s Get Up Friday morning, Howard suggested that if Day cannot get the job and compete for a National Championship, maybe Ohio State makes a Chip Kelly for Ryan Day swap at head coach.

"I think the people at Ohio State pushed all of their chips to the center of the table, and some fans may say if we got rid of Ryan Day, who would we hire? They went out and hired Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator, so if things go arise, I think they have somebody who's behind Ryan Day. So yeah, I think Ryan Day is on the hot seat right now." Howard said on Get Up.

Despite the immense pressure on Day's shoulders this season, fan's were not that fond of the controversial statement Howard made.

"Bro talking that talk like it didn’t take Harbaugh 10 years to beat Ohio State" A fan said.

Not a chance in hell. Chip Kelly does not want to be a head coach anymore. He’s made that pretty clear. Another said.

One more fan responded, "Desmond misses the biggest point. The whole reason Chip spent two months applying for assistant jobs is because he HATES dealing with NIL...HATES dealing with the portal. HATES having to do booster events. He just wants to watch film and coach. @DesmondHoward "

As you can see, many disagreed with what Howard said, but the proposition could be one of many outlets if indeed Day is fired at the end of the year. However, if you win over 85% of your games, it is hard to justify firing that kind of a coach.

But everyone knows, especially Ryan Day, how big this season is for the Buckeyes. They assembled one of the best rosters in the nation, and with a 12-team playoff format debuting in 2024-25, this is the year for the Buckeyes and coach Day to get the job done.
