When all else fails, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s team chemistry will prevail. As much as the team’s offseason has been busy with transactions, the players have added to the revolving door of intrigue with their own participation. Some have hosted summer youth camps; others debuted in the Olympics, and others did podcasts and left witty remarks on social media.

We’ll have to put star big man Chet Holmgren in that last category. In the offseason ahead of an all-important sophomore campaign, the 7-footer has been active on X all summer and recently made some remarks again in response to a viral video.

Chet responds to his frontcourt partner

The Thunder acquired former New York Knicks center Isaiah Hartenstein at the start of free agency back in July. It hasn’t been a full two months since “I-Hart” has been on the team, so some disagreement is bound to occur, right?

Hartenstein recently went viral in a video where he was asked about Holmgren and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in an interview. The new Thunder star was challenged to pick between his teammates, such as who’s more reliable with the aux cord and who is more likely to do something.

When asked who is more likely to be on the receiving end of a poster dunk, Hartenstein didn’t hesitate in his response.

“Probably Chet [is more likely to be dunked on] because he’ll try to block it,” says Hart . “Shai will probably just get out of the way or something.”

While his response seems perfectly objective, especially considering that big men are always contesting shots in the paint and are more vulnerable to allowing a dunk, Chet provided a hilarious rebuttal to Hart’s responses shortly after the video was posted to social media.

That’s some big-man pride right there. Holmgren swatted 2.5 shots per game during the 2024 postseason — the most by a rookie in the tournament — and 190 during the 2023–24 campaign. He rightly feels that he’ll deny anyone who enters the paint, especially with his 7-foot-6 wingspan.

In the end, it’s all good-natured and demonstrates the vibe Holmgren has with the newly added big man. For Hartenstein, he’ll hope he isn’t on the humiliating end of a dunk next season, or Chet will let him hear about it all year long.
