The Memphis basketball program aims to elevate its performance in the 2023-24 season when the fall comes around.

The Tigers have secured strong contributors from the transfer portal during the offseason. Penny Hardaway, the former Orlando Magic star and current Memphis head coach, is committed to maximizing his team's potential.

However, in August, Hardaway was reportedly the victim of a theft.

As reported by ESPN's Myron Medcalf, police have arrested a suspect on Thursday for allegedly stealing 26 pairs of shoes from Hardaway's home, valued at $4.25 million.

A Memphis police report identified the suspect as 42-year-old Ronald James, who was caught on camera removing merchandise belonging to Hardaway and transporting boxes on a shopping cart near his residence earlier in August. The police disseminated the suspect's image, soliciting the public's assistance in identifying him.

Hardaway reported to Memphis TV station WREG that 26 pairs of unique Foamposite shoes were stolen from his home, as Medcalf reported.

Nike's Foamposite line, which gained fame through Hardaway during his time with the Orlando Magic in the 1990s, remains popular. Years after his last NBA game, Hardaway remains a profitable partner with Nike.

The details of James' first court appearance regarding the theft are not yet known, and his bond is still undetermined. It has not been disclosed whether the stolen merchandise has been recovered.
