As the New York Giants approach their preseason finale against the New York Jets, quarterback Tommy DeVito is focused on making a lasting impression. DeVito, who had a solid preseason showing last year, faces an uncertain future as he competes for a spot on the Giants’ final 53-man roster.

Despite a successful 2023 preseason where he completed 43 of 64 passes for 453 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, DeVito didn't make the final cut.

Yet, he was later called upon due to injuries in the quarterback room, proving he belonged in the NFL.

Despite a successful 2023 preseason where he completed 43 of 64 passes for 453 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, DeVito didn't make the final cut but was later called upon due to injuries in the quarterback room, proving he belonged in the NFL.

This year, DeVito finds himself in a similar situation. The addition of veteran quarterback Drew Lock to the roster has raised questions about DeVito's future with the team. Lock, recovering from a hip injury, is expected to serve as the backup to starter Daniel Jones , potentially leaving DeVito as the odd man out if the Giants opt to carry only two quarterbacks.

When asked about his mindset heading into the final preseason game, DeVito remained confident.

"I think I've always carried confidence about myself. I've always just tried to go out each and every day and tried to play my best and be my best each day on the field," DeVito said .

Head coach Brian Daboll has not revealed his plans for the starters in the preseason finale, but with Lock serving as an emergency quarterback, it’s likely that DeVito will have the opportunity to take the reins against the Jets.

For DeVito, this game represents a golden opportunity—not only to convince the Giants to keep him on the roster but also to showcase his skills to other NFL teams. The Giants have historically not kept three quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, often due to injuries elsewhere on the team.

However, the new injured reserve rule allowing up to two players to be placed on IR at the roster cutdown date and designated for return could create room for DeVito to stay.

"It's not my decision. It's not in my hands," DeVito continued, acknowledging the uncertainty of his situation. "So for me, it's just to continue, every time I'm out on the field, show why I belong somewhere in the NFL."

Now in his second year in the Giants’ system, DeVito feels more comfortable and prepared to seize whatever opportunity comes his way. While he hopes to remain with the Giants, his ultimate goal is to prove he belongs in the NFL, no matter where he ends up.
