With the addition of the Texas Longhorns to the SEC , one of the biggest rivalries in college sports is back between the Horns and the Texas A&M Aggies .

The Lone Star Showdown is among the fiercest, most hate-filled, and most bitter rivalries in all of athletics. The two sides have not met on the gridiron since 2011 once the Aggies headed to the SEC in 2012 but will face off at Kyle Field this season.

Athletics Directors from both schools held a press conference this week to announce a new sponsorship for the game, and while taking questions both talked about the excitement they have for the return of one of college football's greatest games. Longhorns AD Chris Del Conte spoke at length about how much the rivalry means and why it's so special for it to return.

“College athletics is built on great rivalries. It’s what separates us from everyone else. We think about the passion, the history, A&M’s culture. It’s what they stand for, it’s who they are as an institution, it’s the University of Texas and who we are as an institution playing on the field. It’s our pageantry that goes against each other and we come back after the game and we talk about that for a year in the water coolers," Del Conte said. “The last time we played this game was 2011. Being back here today, it’s critical for this state, it’s critical for college football. I’m so excited for both alumni bases. … It is awesome, when you think about the restoration and the reclamation of this rivalry. It is going to be fantastic.”

By the sounds of it, both sides are incredibly excited to reignite the rivalry.
