At 62-66, the Cincinnati Reds season is quickly coming to a close. With Hunter Greene and Graham Ashcraft on the IL (and Nick Lodolo spending a little time on the IL earlier in the year), Andrew Abbott becomes the fourth starting pitcher from the rotation to his the IL.

Abbott heads to the 15-day IL with a left shoulder strain designation, retro to August 20. On the year, Abbott made 25 starts for a 10-10 record and a 3.72 ERA. He started off the season pretty well, managing a 2.68 ERA across 57 innings in his first 10 starts.

Over his last 11, however, his ERA was 4.05 over 60 innings with five starts of at least three earned runs allowed. He heads to the IL tied for the lead in baseball with a whopping 25 home runs allowed.

In a corresponding move, the Reds selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Alan Busenitz . In Triiple-A Louisville, Busenitz has made 40 appearances (two starts) and had a 3.93 ERA. Across 55 innings, he has a 1.273 WHIP.

Last year, Busenitz appeared in six games for the Reds. In his seven innings, he allowed eight hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts. Those are the only six appearances he's made since 2018. He spent 2019-2022 in Japan.

Finally, catcher Austin Wynns was transferred to the 60-day IL with that torn right teres major. Wynns has been on the IL since July 29 and served as the Reds' third catcher in July.

In his seven games, Wynns was hitting .368/400/.579 (7-for-19) and drove in a pair of runs.
