The Los Angeles Rams are facing tough decisions as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.

With the roster cut deadline approaching, the coaching staff must evaluate their options, especially along the defensive front seven, where they have accumulated considerable talent to offset the absence of Aaron Donald.

One player whose future is uncertain is second-year edge rusher Ochaun Mathis. After appearing in eight games during his rookie season, Mathis finds himself in a competitive position. The Rams have a deep roster, and Mathis may not make the final cut.

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon picked sophomore edge rusher Ochaun Mathis as the one player the Rams should cut,

“Edge-rushing depth is a good thing, but Los Angeles has some flexibility up front within its roster locks. Ochaun Mathis, who appeared in eight games as a rookie, is seemingly well behind at the position.”

Despite a promising college career at TCU, where he recorded nine sacks and 14 tackles for loss, Mathis's performance hasn’t translated into a secure spot on the team.

With the Rams drafting 14 players in 2023, including several who are likely to make an impact, not everyone can stay.

Mathis has shown flashes of potential, earning high grades from PFF in recent preseason games. However, the numbers game could ultimately lead to his release as the Rams finalize their 53-man roster.

The upcoming week will be crucial for him and other players as they vie for their place on the team.
