Kyle Whittingham's New Fall Camp Approach Shows Resounding Improvement

Fall Camp has been a rather detrimental period for Utah football in years past, decimating the squad in key positions before the season even began.

As a result of the rightful concerns regarding the unusual phenomenon, Utah HC Kyle Whittingham announced a drastic structure change to the Utes fall camp at Big 12 Media Days in an effort to reduce injuries.

"Yeah, we've done a few things. We're changing the format of fall camp to more of a ramp-up like the NFL does instead of just hit the ground running," Coach Whitt said at Big 12 Media Days. "We're gonna go two days, take a day off, go three days, take a day off, go four days, take a day off, so there's a ramping effect there.

"Also, in the strength room, we've done some modifications in our lifting to try to prevent soft tissue injuries," Whttingham added. "We've looked at the warm-up and stretch routines that we do, so we've looked at every possible angle we have and we'll implement some of those this fall," the long-tenured coach continued.

Well, with fall camp coming to a close as the season opener against SUU is just a week away, Whittingham proclaimed that Utah has had 70% fewer injuries during fall camp. A major development, considering how banged-up the team was last season.

This fall camp has arguably been the most productive and successful camp the Utes have had in a while, and while the injury statistic alone could be a marker for the success of the period, the countless close battles and rather unknown names taking the leap into a spot of contention within the team set up shows just how deep and talented the squad is heading into the 2024 campaign.
