Commanders' Kliff Kingsbury Reveals Secret 'Deebo Samuel' Weapon

As you can expect, anyone and everyone involved with the Washington Commanders was asked about the trade that sent receiver Jahan Dotson to their NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury wasn’t asked directly about the trade, but he was asked what they are looking for in receivers.

“DQ’s style of play,” Kingsubry said. “Be physical and play hard without the ball. I think that’s what we preach is like everybody’s gonna run routes and make catches at this level, but how do you play without the ball?”

This seems like an ongoing theme at this point. Former Commanders Brian Mitchell and Logan Paulsen made those same observations following the trade on Thursday as well.

Kingsbury quickly turned his attention to a couple of players that can really make a big impact alongside rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels this season.

“Austin Ekeler has been fantastic,” Kingsbury said. “I think there’s a narrative out there that maybe he lost a step, or something was off, and that couldn’t be further from the truth from what I’ve seen… Brian Robinson he’s a No. 1 back in this league, there’s no doubt.”

Kingsbury did point out that receiver Kazmeir Allen could be an impact player for the Commanders this season.

“So, he’s a guy that we could see similar —I’m not comparing — but he has a Deebo-type role to move him around and do different things,” Kingsbury said. “He has that type of explosiveness and ability to play in the slot, or you can hand it to him.”

With one final preseason game on the schedule before the team can turn their focus to the regular season opener at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kingsbury & Co. are definitely willing to move pieces around to find the right chemistry.
