Ex Commanders' Logan Paulsen On Jahan Dotson Trade: 'No Urgency!'

Following the trade of Washington Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles plenty of people had something to say about it. The aftermath is full of verbal carnage, but almost to a T, they all say that they weren’t shocked to see Dotson go.
Add former Commanders tight end Logan Paulsen to that list. Not long after the trade was announced, Paulsen joined Craig Hoffman on The Team 980 to discuss the trade.
“I wasn’t really surprised. I think a lot of people are surprised when I say that,” Paulsen said. “I like Jahan as a person. I like some of the stuff he does as a receiver. Obviously, I was very high on him coming out in the draft. However, when you watch him, compared to the rest of the receivers in the room, there just seems to be a lack of urgency at times.”
Former Commanders running back Brian Mitchell also questioned Dotson’s mental toughness and lack of competitiveness on Thursday.
“When you look at his production through practice and through the games, is he really offering that much more than a guy like Luke McCaffrey, who you brought in?” Paulsen continued. “
“When you talk about Luke McCaffrey, one thing you will never say about him is that he’s not urgent. He is one of the most urgent and deliberate players I think I’ve seen as a rookie.”
McCaffrey, this year’s No. 100 overall pick in the third round, is the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey. He has seen first hand what it takes to be successful in the league. He will definitely be a solid addition to the Commanders receiver rotation.
“This is just my opinion; I haven’t talked to anybody in the building about this specifically,” Paulsen concluded. “But it appeared to me that Jahan was not engaging with the new culture, the way the other players we just mentioned are and have done (Jamin Davis, Emmanuel Forbes, Phidarian Mathis, McCaffrey).”
Many players have come out and said that the culture, attitude and overall energy surround the Commanders under Dan Quinn is like night and day over the culture that former coach Ron Rivera brought.
If Dotson wasn’t buying into it, that’s one thing. But there have been multiple reports that his lack of work ethic and lack of mental and physical toughness is why he got traded.
We may never know all the reasons, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
