Deion Sanders Makes Final Decision On Reporter After 'Sustained Personal Attacks'

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has had a couple of awkward encounters with the media this month.

We already saw a resolution for Sanders' tiff with CBS, but on Friday, it was confirmed that Sanders and a reporter from the Denver Post would not be talking anytime soon.

In an article released on Friday, August 23, the Denver Post revealed that the Colorado Buffaloes program alerted them that Sanders will no longer be taking questions from columnist Sean Keeler. The reason for this cold shoulder from Sanders and the program is reportedly due to "a series of sustained personal attacks," according to the Denver Post's sports editor, Matt Schubert.

“After a series of sustained, personal attacks on the football program and specifically Coach Prime, the CU Athletic Department in conjunction with the football program, have decided not to take questions from Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler at football-related events," said the program's statement to the Denver Post.

The report confirmed that Keeler and fellow staffers will still be credentialed for games and practices, but only Keeler is banned from asking questions for what was revealed to be an indefinite period of time.

When asked for specific examples of Keeler attacking Sanders by the Denver Post, the CU sports information staffer provided the phrases "false prophet,” “Deposition Deion,” “Planet Prime,” “Bruce Lee of B.S.,” “the Deion Kool-Aid” and “circus" as examples.

It is unclear if Sanders or someone else in the program decided that Keeler could no longer ask questions, but it is worth noting that Sanders' contract says he is only required to speak with “mutually agreed upon media," according to the Denver Post.

The run-in between Sanders and Keeler that initially went viral happened on August 9. Keeler's question was interrupted by Sanders asking him why he was asking questions even though he didn't like the program.

“You don’t like us, man," Sanders said . "Why do you do this to yourself? Why do you do this, though? No, I’m serious. Why do you do this? It would be hard for me to really engage with or someone or something I really don’t like. I’m just asking why? What did I do?"

According to The Athletic , the banning of Keeler's questions began on August 12. The report also revealed that this marks the second time during his coaching career that Sanders has banned a reporter from asking questions as he also did so at Jackson State.

Keeler has yet to comment on the matter.
