Conference realignment never seems to sleep, and now the reigning back-to-back national champions, the UConn Huskies, are the subject of the latest rumors.

The Huskies are no stranger to inter-conference travel themselves, having gone from the Big East to the AAC when it was birthed only to eventually transfer back into the Big East for basketball purposes, thus stranding the football program as an independent.

Basketball-wise, UConn has been unbelievably successful as part of the Big East, but it's hard to imagine their new potential conference would be a downgrade. Financially, they'd likely benefit as well.

According to reporting from Ross Dellenger at Yahoo Sports, The Big 12 is interested in potentially adding UConn to its conference.

"The Big 12 and UConn remain in serious negotiations about the Huskies joining the league as its newest expansion member, multiple sources tell Yahoo Sports," he wrote Friday afternoon.

    An important note:

"In the latest version of the deal, UConn would join the conference as a member in all sports except football starting, at latest, in 2026," added Dellenger.

Way down the road, the Husky football program might get a shot to join the league, too.

"Contingent upon the school meeting certain investment thresholds in the sport, UConn football would join the Big 12 in 2031," said the report.

UConn recently returned to the Big East, collected a couple of national championship trophies, and could now abscond to a new conference once again. That's certainly some news out of left field, which is par for the course in the last few years of conference realignment.
