This is a make-or-break season for the New York Jets . Everything is on the line. Jobs, reputations, and careers can all go down the tubes if the Jets don’t live up to expectations this season.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers returns from injury to lead the Jets offense this year. With a revamped offensive line and stars at the skill positions, the four-time MVP has a real opportunity to cement his legacy in the Big Apple.

Rodgers and the Jets recently got a vote of confidence from an unlikely source. In an appearance on the Zach Gelb Show, Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre believes it could be a special year for Gang Green.

“If Aaron’s healthy, I expect what everyone else expects, that he leads that team to potentially a championship,” Favre said. “Their defense I don’t think anyone can question whether you’re familiar with the Jets or not, their defense is pretty darn stout.

“When you got a really good defense, you got a chance. Now you throw Aaron into the mix and you know there is probably not a better playmaker at quarterback starting in the league right now.”

For those who don’t know the history between Rodgers and Favre, this might just seem like he’s just propping up his friend. The real story is, there was a ton of animosity between the two for years because of how Favre treated Rodgers during their time with the Packers.

“Even at his age I mean he’s you know, throw the age out the number, and look at how he moves and gets rid of the ball and his football knowledge,” Favre continued. “He’s got the highest football IQ of anybody that I’ve ever been around.

“So, I expect that they compete for not only the division championship, but the conference championship.”

The Jets and their fans are hopeful that Favre is correct. When Rodgers is healthy, he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

The Jets are scheduled to kick off their season on the road on Monday Night Football as they travel to Santa Clara, California to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 9.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. EST.
