3 Players Who Need to Step Up in Jets Preseason Finale

As with any preseason finale, not all roster spots are secured when it comes to the New York Jets.

New York has approximately 48 roster spots secured ranging from their deep secondary group to a talented offensive group. The remaining five spots, though, are up for grabs and just as much about value of position than by performance.

And when it comes to that metric, there are three Jets who need to step up in Saturday's preseason contest against the New York Giants.

    Israel Abanikanda

Abanikanda's roster odds have improved over the last few weeks, but he's still on the bubble due to his positional value, and the question of how many backs the Jets want to keep on the 53-man roster.

A good performance is imperative for Izzy on Saturday.

    Jason Brownlee

At one point in camp, it looked like Brownlee had done enough to make the final 53-man roster. With a poor showing in Carolina, and a quiet stretch of football, though, it's more likely than not Brownlee will be released shortly.

Unless he dominates against New York of course.

    Eric Watts

Watts is probably in better standing than any of these two players above him, but in a crowded defensive line room, it's still a longshot he makes the roster.

The UCONN product is probably a practice squad candidate overall but a strong performance Saturday could have him jump up boards.
