Gymnast Aly Raisman Offers Bold Advice to Jordan Chiles Over 'Really Unfair' Medal Controversy

Jordan Chiles is getting support from a former Team USA star amid the growing controversy over her bronze medal.

Chiles initially earned the medal after judges made a late score change in the floor competition at the Paris Olympics, allowing her to jump into third place from fifth. But the Romanian team appealed the scoring change with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which ruled that Team USA's challenge was made four seconds too late. Chiles was stripped of her medal and Romania’s Ana Barbosu instead took third place.

Aly Raisman, who represented the United States at the 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, spoke out in support of Chiles this week. Raisman said she believes Chiles deserves a more thorough explanation of the ruling -- and should keep the medal she was awarded.

“Jordan deserves answers as to what evidence the Court of Arbitration for Sport has,” Raisman told Us Weekly . “It’s very confusing to me. It makes no sense. I don’t think Jordan should give her medal back.”

Raisman added that the designated official at the event accepted Team USA's initial appeal to judges, which meant that it was made within the official time frame. Raisman said it was "really unfair" for Chiles to lose her medal because of a mistake by officials.
