    Guerschon Yabusele Taking Financial Sacrifice?

    By Lance Roberson,

How much would you pay to play in the NBA? While you may think such a question is odd, as the NBA is supposed to compensate its players financially, Victor Wembanyama's Olympic teammate might have to sacrifice most of his contract with the Philadelphia 76ers to play in the holy grail of basketball leagues.

According to Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer , Guerschon Yabusele must pay $1.6 million of the $2.1 million the 76ers owe to complete a buyout with Real Madrid. If Yabusele accepts such a plan, he'll earn $500,000 to compete in the NBA.

Although playing in the NBA is a privilege and not a born right, such a price to play seems like an intern pay compared to the veteran minimum contract.

"I have been told that Guerschon’s camp and Real Madrid are working together to figure out an equitable solution to make all that happen," Fischer said.

Yabusele hasn't played in the NBA since 2019, when he spent two seasons with the Boston Celtics. Since leaving the NBA, Yabusele played in the EuroLeague for five seasons.

He spent two years with ASVEL, a French basketball club owned by Spurs legend Tony Parker. However, in the last three years, Yabusele played with Real Madrid, a top-tier Spanish club, as it finished second in the Liga ACB league with a 28-6 record.

Fischer's report conveys that Real Madrid isn't trying to play hardball, but as a prestigious basketball club, it'll expect something in return for breaking such a contract.
