Gold Medalist Noah Lyles Makes Big Announcement About 2028 Olympics

Thanks to a bout with COVID, the 2024 Paris Olympics didn’t go according to plan for Noah Lyles.

The USA track and field star did, however, win a gold medal in the men’s 100 meters and before earning a bronze in the 200 meters to claim the second and third Olympic medals of his career.

But it’s that bronze-medal memory that just doesn’t sit right with Lyles. He recently disclosed to NBC Sports that he not only plans to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, but he’s gunning for gold in the 200m — the event he’s been known to dominate.

“I’d definitely say it's unfinished business, me and this Olympic 200m,” Lyles said . “I always thought it was going to be the 100m that was going to be the hardest one for me to obtain. I never thought that I'd be 100m Olympic gold medalist before I became a 200m Olympic gold medalist.”

Lyles prides himself on being the best in the 200m.

He won gold in the event at the World Championships (2019, 2022 and 2023) the Diamond League (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022), the Pan American U20 Championships (2015), and the Youth Olympics (2014).

But Lyles believes he didn’t put forth his best effort in Paris due to racing against the best in the world while diagnosed with COVID.

“Of course, catching COVID was never (in the plan), but having every option available to me to get as healthy as possible as I could in that moment was very reassuring to have,” Lyles added. “…It wasn't the Olympics I dreamed of, but even still coming away with the gold medal and still being able to get the bronze medal on top of that, I could have never been more proud of myself.”
