Chicago Sky Get Intense Roasting After Marina Mabrey's Breakout Game With Sun
By Angelo Guinhawa,

WNBA fans couldn't help but troll the Chicago Sky after the player they traded to the Connecticut Sun earlier in the season, Marina Mabrey, delivered in their showdown on Friday, August 23.
Mabrey, who was dealt to the Sun prior to the Olympic break last July, was scorching hot in the contest and hardly missed any shot. She exploded for a season-high 24 points and made nine of her 13 attempts as Connecticut survived Chicago, 82-80.
It was clear from the get-go that there was tension between Mabrey and the Sky. Prior to the game, Chicago's players appeared to snub their former teammate. Then during the showdown, Chennedy Carter hit the guard in the face and was called for a flagrant foul.
Mabrey didn't let the animosity bother her and proceeded to lead the Sun to a hard-fought victory. Mabrey was 5-of-7 from deep and added three rebounds and one assist to her stat line.
Sure enough, WNBA and Sun fans absolutely loved that she stepped up big time to punish her former team.
"She was back with a vengeance. She absolutely hates everyone on that Sky team you could see it," a commenter wrote on StatMamba's post about Mabrey.
An X user added, "Show them what they lost!!! Good for her. They were dumb to trade her."
"Still contributing to Chicago Sky losses. Nothin new here," an online troll joked.
A critic also accused the Sky of focusing too much on Angel Reese instead of playing winning basketball when they had Mabrey, saying: "She is the best player on the Sky. But they wanted to play about Reese getting rebound and missing shots. She wanted out and [yo]u don’t blame her."
Another detractor agreed, "The Sky would be top 5 if they kept her and gave her 5-6 more shots a game while limiting Reese to 6-7 shots a game."
Marina Mabrey actually asked for a trade away from the Sky amid the team's rebuilding season, only reasoning out—without going into detail—that the vision she had when she joined the team in 2023 didn't pan out.
Sure enough, Mabrey made the right decision to move on from Chicago, especially with the Sun among the best teams in the league this 2024 season. They improved to 21-7 on the campaign with their latest win. More than that, the 27-year-old vet also proved on Friday that she's in a better place now.
