    Jeremy Sochan Imitates 'The Worm'

    By Lance Roberson,

Jeremy Sochan may not be a point guard, especially for the San Antonio Spurs. However, if Sochan's hair matches anywhere near to Dennis Rodman's on-court production as it does his hairstyle, the Spurs' defense will become elite in the next few seasons.

With Victor Wembanyama as the defensive anchor, Sochan and the Spurs star would make for a formidable frontcourt.

The Spurs power forward is no stranger to dying his hair, reminiscent of Rodman, but without the disruption during the NBA Hall of Famer's short San Antonio tenure. Nonetheless, Sochan has the length and the bounce to defend at a high level.

According to Synergy Sports, Sochan is an average defender. However, in isolation sequences, he ranks in the 73rd percentile in points per possession rank, which falls under a "very good" points per possession rating.

In isolation sequences, Sochan's defensive assignment shot an abysmal 38 percent in effective field goal percentage. The potential exists, but the whole team must get on board for the frontcourt to keep the ship afloat.

Perhaps with Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes, the defense improves, mainly due to veteran leadership. Furthermore, even if Paul can't get to the same stops defensively, he can read plays, therefore making it easy to guide his teammates to slide in the correct spots to hinder opposing offenses.

As long as Sochan inherits Rodman's hairstyle and on-court production only, Gregg Popovich shouldn't feel the stress of the 1990s Spurs. The Spurs would like to avoid two consecutive failed experiments involving Sochan.
