'We're Ready to Go!' Bucs QB Baker Mayfield Sharp in Win Over Dolphins

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin stated earlier in the week that the offense was in a "good spot," and after the first drive against the Miami Dolphins in their third preseason game, we tend to agree.

With a host of starters getting reps, Baker Mayfield and the offense clicked into gear from the first snap. ... on a way to a 24-14 win.

While Mayfield hit completions of nine, 17, and 28 yards (a dime to rookie Jalen McMillan), running back Rachaad White also had carries of four, five, and three yards before punching it in for a four-yard touchdown to cap off the perfect drive.

For Baker, he went 3/3 for 54 yards on the first drive as the Buccaneers offense put the foot down on their first drive.

All offseason, the Buccaneers have been hard at work learning Liam Coen's new offensive system. With some calling it hard and complex, there have been a lot of moving parts that have to be accounted for in Coen's scheme.

But if the first drive of the game against Miami is anything to go by, when it clicks, Tampa Bay looks superb.

"Our guys are locked in, exactly what the coaches asked of them,'' Mayfield said. "We're ready to go.

Now, it is only preseason, so we can take what happened with a grain of salt, but what head coach Todd Bowles and Coen saw on the seven-play drive would have to give them confidence heading into Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.

There have been many detractors of the Buccaneers due to Mayfield and his inability to reproduce his 2023 Pro Bowl efforts, but after Tampa Bay's first drive, they might be shiting a little nervously in their seats.

Yes, it's preseason, but Baker and the Buccaneers look ready for the regular season to commence.
