Bruins GM Offers Middling Update On Jeremy Swayman's Contract Talks

We're entering the final weeks of the NHL offseason and somehow, someway, the Boston Bruins still don't have a No. 1 goalie locked into their net for the 2024-25 season.

The contract situation of star goaltender Jeremy Swayman keeps dragging throughout the summer and with September and training camp just around the corner, the young netminder remains unsigned as a restricted free agent.

Bruins general manager Cam Neely appeared on WZLX’s "The Rich Shertenlieb Show" on August 22 and offered an update that, while reassuring, still leaves some uncertainty hanging in the air.

"Something will get done. There’s no question," Neely said. "Not every negotiation is as smooth as you’d like it.

"I know our fan base would certainly love to have something done by now. But I’m fully confident that both sides will come to an agreement before too long here."

Swayman is coming off a regular season in which he posted a 25-10-8 record with a .916 save percentage and a 2.53 GAA across 44 games. He followed that with a strong postseason, leading all goalies with a .933 save percentage and a 2.15 GAA.

The Bruins will look to lock Swayman into a long-term deal that secures his services through his prime years following his breakout seasons of late.

Boston currently has $8.6 million in salary cap space, according to PuckPedia , which should be more than enough to ink Swayman to such a contract.

Despite the delay in reaching an agreement, Neely’s confidence suggests that both sides are making progress and that an agreement should be announced before the start of next season.
