Commanders Get Poor Grade For Dotson Trade

In 2022, the Washington Commanders selected Penn State receiver Jahan Dotson with the No. 16 overall pick in the first round. On Thursday, just over two years later, they traded Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles.

CBS Sports released an article detailing the trade, giving the Commanders a “D” for the trade.

"There's no way to frame this as anything other than a loss for Washington," CBS Sports wrote. "Dotson was a first-round pick just two years ago and he played two underwhelming seasons for the team, but he also didn't get an opportunity to play with a good quarterback during that time.

“To essentially get only a pick swap and a couple of seventh-rounders for him is a pretty big disappointment."

The Commanders sent Dotson and a fifth-round pick to Philadelphia for a third-round pick and two seventh-rounders. This trade was about a lot more than draft picks. This was about the Commanders getting a fresh start and also giving one to Dotson.

Dotson will now slide into that No. 3 receiver role with the Eagles behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

The two teams don’t meet in the regular-season until Week 11, a Thursday night game in Philly.

On the surface at this moment, it looks like it could be a bad trade for the Commanders, but as the season progresses, that grade is subject to change.
