Twins DFA reliever Steven Okert, bring back Blewett

The Minnesota Twins’ bullpen has been struggling over the past several weeks and the team is now making a change.

Saturday morning, the club designated left-handed reliever Steven Okert for assignment and selected right-hander Scott Blewett from Triple-A St. Paul.

Blewett previously appeared in one game for the Twins on Aug. 12 after signing a minor-league deal with the organization early this year. That was his first MLB appearance since September 2021.

Okert, who was acquired in the offseason from Miami for Nick Gordon, is 3-2 with a 5.09 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 35.1 innings and 44 games.

He pitched a scoreless frame on Friday night but his ERA this month is still 8.44 and he posted an 11.25 ERA in July.

The move leaves Caleb Thielbar as the lone lefty in Minnesota’s bullpen.

The Twins are back in action Saturday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. First pitch at Target Field is set for 6:10 p.m.
