Deion Sanders is entering his second season as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team. His son, Shadeur Sanders, will once again lead the charge under center in his second season as the starting quarterback.

Despite the high-powered offense with arguably the best receiver in the nation in Travis Hunter, not many people have the Buffaloes contending for a national championship. Their lack of defense really hurt them last season.

But former Alabama head coach Nick Saban likes what Colorado is doing with the Sanders family.

In the week zero edition of "College Gameday," the crew made their predictions for Colorado's first game against the North Dakota State Bison. Each analyst picked the Buffaloes to win easily, and when Saban was making his choice, he revealed his thoughts on Deion and Shadeur.

“I’m all for Coach Prime, man," Saban said. "He’s doing a great job at Colorado... His son is a great quarterback. I think they’ll take the next step as a team this year.”

The Buffaloes got off to a good start in 2023, winning their first three games, one of which was against a ranked opponent (TCU). After that, they lost eight of their last nine games, including the final six, finishing the season with a 4-8 record.

Despite the record, Shadeur still had a fantastic season. He completed 298 of his 430 pass attempts for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He also added four touchdowns on the ground. Shadeur's high level of play has made him a popular selection to win the 2024 Heisman trophy.

Colorado's defense allowed 453.3 total yards per game in 2023, the fifth-most by any college football team. They also allowed 34.8 points per game, the 12th most. If the Buffaloes want any chance at success in 2024, they will have to improve on that side of the ball.

Saban ended his coaching career in January after 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide. During his Alabama tenure, Saban won six national championships and nine SEC titles. He became the school's second most winningest coach behind Bear Bryant.
