NBA Legend Claims San Antonio Spurs Will Be 'Organized' With Chris Paul

The San Antonio Spurs know that Chris Paul will not be a long-term piece as they build around Victor Wembanyama, but they are hoping that his impact will last for several years, especially as he offers mentorship to rookie point guard Stephon Castle.

Last season, it was clear that Wembanyama plays better with a true point guard on the floor, and the Spurs upgraded the backcourt by slinging Tre Jones to the bench, signing Paul, and drafting Castle. It's safe to say that Wembanyama will reap the rewards.

NBA legend Kevin Garnett recently praised the Spurs for having the foresight to invest in their backcourt and took to his podcast's Instagram page to explain how dangerous the Spurs can be.

"I think San Antonio is going to be one of those teams," said Garnett. "I think having Chris Paul there and having that gutty veteran there to really help you through tough situations is going to be good for Wemby."

While it's true that Paul is there to facilitate growth, Garnett continued and suggested that the Spurs should have added even more veterans outside of Paul and Harrison Barnes in an effort to give Wembanyama some added mentorship. However, that is forgetting that the Spurs have other pieces in their young core that they want to build with, and playing vets over the likes of Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, and Castle would hinder the long-term growth the Spurs are looking for.

The Big Ticket did say that Wembanyama needs to be more "aggressive" and "selfish," which is true. While Vassell can help carry an offense, it will be wildly clear moving forward that the Spurs will be looking to get Wembanyama the ball and let him go to work instead of creating their own shot.
