The San Diego Padres' minor league affiliates had a mixed bag of results on August 23, with two wins and two losses. Here’s a breakdown of the day’s action.

    El Paso Chihuahuas

They secured a 6-4 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers, ending a frustrating ten-game losing streak. The Chihuahuas capitalized on a strong second inning, scoring four runs. Key contributions came from Clay Dungan and Chandler Seagle, both of whom had three hits.

Seagle, making his return after an injury, drove in a run and scored another. Starting pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. returned to the mound after re-signing with the Padres, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing three runs. The bullpen held strong, with Ethan Routzahn earning the win and Austin Davis closing out the game for the save.

    San Antonio Missions

They fell to the Frisco RoughRiders, losing 10-4. Starting pitcher Sam Whiting struggled early, giving up three runs in the first inning and failing to make it through the third. Jackson Wolf, recently assigned to the Missions, provided some relief, striking out five in 2.1 innings.

The Missions’ offense showed signs of life, with Romeo Sanabria driving in two runs and Joshua Mears hitting a home run for his first Double-A hit.

    Fort Wayne TinCaps

They lost 6-4 to the Peoria Chiefs. Jagger Haynes pitched well, striking out seven over six innings. Wyatt Hoffman was the standout at the plate, driving in three runs, including a two-run homer. However, the TinCaps’ bullpen struggled, allowing multiple runs in the late innings, which ultimately cost them the game.

    Lake Elsinore Storm

They managed a narrow 1-0 win against Rancho Cucamonga, thanks to a combined shutout effort from five pitchers. Ian Koenig was particularly impressive, throwing 3.1 no-hit innings. The Storm’s only run came from a first-inning RBI double by Brendan Durfee. Ryan Jackson also had a strong game with two hits and a stolen base.

Looking ahead, the Padres’ minor league teams will continue their seasons with several players showing promise.
