After spending nine seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Jimmie Ward signed a two-year contract with the Houston Texans. This contract has now been extended an extra year through the end of 2025. Last season, Ward had three pass reflections, one interception and one forced fumble in just nine games.

He talked this week about the confidence the organization has shown in him along with being a veteran presence in the secondary.

On what it means to have his contact extended before the season begins

Jimmie: Oh man, I’m excited about it! It means everything. I get to stay in this great city. I love the state and they’re all about football. I get to be with DeMeco and my teammates, my peers for one extra year. So I’m really grateful for that.

On what he has seen from Calen Bullock and how he has helped him on transitioning to the NFL

Jimmie: We have been helping each other. You can never stop learning in this league. If he asks me questions, I tell him how I play it and I see it and the same thing with him. He’ll tell me certain stuff, how he plays it and how he sees it and I feel like that helps everyone.

On players he looked up to and tried to emulate when he first started in the league

Jimmie: One person who I looked at a lot and learned a lot from is former cornerback Richard Sherman. Just how he attacked the game, saw the game and ran his defense. So I feel like I learned a lot from him.
