The Florida State vs. Georgia Tech game kicked off the 2024 college football season, which means it also featured the very first two-minute timeout.

The timeout effectively acts as the college equivalent of the two-minute warning, stopping the clock exactly at 2:00 or at the first stoppage after that mark. However, in college, some rule changes come into place.

For instance, the clock now runs following first downs, except for the final two minutes of the half following the two-minute timeout.

That's by far the most significant change after the two-minute timeout, as teams will now be able to save time and stop the clock on any play they gain a first down in the final two minutes. So, keep that note in mind when watching exciting end-of-game action this season.

Predictably, though, college football fans haven't taken to the new change yet.

Clearly, some fans are not big fans of the new timeout at the end of halves in college football. In other replies, many fans were angry about the influx of commercials they now must sit through at the end of the second and fourth quarters.

As for coaches who need the clock on their side at the end of games, the two-minute timeout is a very nice advantage to have.
