Kirk Herbstreit Drops His Pick For the College Football National Championship

    2024-08-24

The ESPN "College GameDay" crew was in Dublin, Ireland, when Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee all shared their predictions for the winner of the College Football Playoff.

Herbsteit helped Desmond Howard split the panel with their pick of the Oregon Ducks. McAfee and Saban both selected the juggernaut Georgia Bulldogs.

While Herbstreit has the Ohio State Buckeyes taking home the Big Ten championship, he expects a different story in the playoff. He's choosing the Ducks to overpower the Bulldogs in the national title.

"I picked Ohio State to win the Big Ten, but remember, now they get into the playoff, who makes the run into the playoff?," Herbstreit said. "I have Dan Lanning, Dillon Gabriel, and Oregon playing Georgia in the national championship. I got Oregon winning it all."

The Oregon Ducks are heading into their first season in the Big Ten with one of the most talented rosters in the nation. They enter the 2024-25 college football season as the No. 3 team in the nation, per the AP Preseason Top 25 rankings.

Dan Lanning has turned the Ducks into one of the most dangerous teams in the country after bringing in the No. 2 transfer portal class in the offseason.

A few of those big names from the portal include quarterback Dillon Gabriel, wide receiver Evan Stewart, and cornerback Kam Alexander.

They'll kickoff their season in Week 1 against Idaho on Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
