Flavio Briatore has clarified that Renault has no plans to sell the Alpine F1 team, despite ongoing challenges, including the shutdown of its 2026 engine operations at the Viry-Chatillon factory.

Briatore, who was brought in by Renault CEO Luca de Meo to help revitalize Alpine, is focused on returning the team to competitive form.

He acknowledges the current struggles with the A524 F1 car's underpowered engine but remains committed to achieving podium finishes by 2027.

In his recent media briefing, Briatore emphasized that Renault is not considering selling Alpine.

He stated that the company is working on a plan for the future, which includes the possibility of transitioning to a customer team that could use Mercedes engines starting in 2026.

    He told BBC.com :

"Something is very clear. Nothing is for sale.

"Luca de Meo doesn't want to sell the team. Question finito [finished]."

This shift comes as Renault has faced difficulties keeping up with competitors since hybrid engines were introduced in 2014.

    He continued:

"The problem is the evidence. But whatever our chairman decides is fine with me."

While Briatore has influence over key decisions, he made it clear that the proposal to close the engine factory was not his idea. This decision is pending approval from the Renault board and is expected to be finalized soon.

"I'm not the bad guy all the time.

"Everything else you can blame on me, but not this."

He also pointed out that Alpine's UK base in Enstone may not need as many staff but stressed the importance of having a skilled and efficient team.

Briatore is in the process of restructuring Alpine's management, following a series of high-profile departures.

He recently appointed Oliver Oakes as the new team principal, praising his enthusiasm and ambition despite his lack of F1 experience.

Briatore believes that a clean and organized team environment is essential for motivation and collaboration.

    Briatore said:

"We need to clear up the house. You need the home clean to make sure everyone is working together. You need to motivate everyone."

As Alpine looks to the future, Briatore's focus remains on building a competitive team capable of returning to the top of Formula 1.
