College Football Fanbase In Shambles After Week 0 Loss

College football fans did not have to wait long for the first top 10 upset of the year.

Georgia Tech stunned No. 10 Florida State on Saturday in Dublin, Ireland, pulling off a 24-21 victory as a heavy underdog. The Seminoles had not lost a regular-season game since Oct. 15 of 2022. Tech had lost 15-straight against top 10 opponents before the Week 0 upset.

Led by transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, FSU got off to a hot start by marching down the field for an opening touchdown and two-point conversion. The Yellow Jackets, led by quarterback Haynes King, did not hesitate though, and quickly answered with a score of their own. The game was deadlocked at 14 at halftime and continued to be a close affair late into the fourth quarter.

Uiagalelei led FSU down the field, converting on a pair of fourth-down attempts, to tie the game with just over six minutes remaining. But that was ultimately too much time for the Tech offense. King led the Yellow Jackets on a 12-play, 49-yard drive that ended with the game-winning field goal from Aidan Birr.

As you might expect, Florida State fans are not happy with the performance from Mike Norvell's squad after a dominant season a year ago. The Seminoles were one of the favorites to win another ACC Championship, but that hype has lost considerable steam.

"AFTER 48 YEARS OF BEING A LOYAL FAN, I CAN NO LONGER DO IT," one social media user tweeted. "I HAVE SPENT TOO MUCH MONEY ON BUSINESS CLASS TICKETS TO IRELAND FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. THIS IS A DISGRACE. I AMNO LONGER A FAN."

FSU's offensive game plan seemed to limit Uiagalelei in his first start with the program. The sixth-year senior passed for 193 yards with zero touchdowns.

"Why wouldn’t u let DJ sling the rock," a fan responded.

While opposing fans are not being kind to Uiagalelei following a lack luster performance, some believe the issues on Saturday reach far beyond his shoulders.

"Yall better not blame DJ for this FSU loss but then again it’s always the QB fault huh," a user wrote.

Florida State will have a chance to rebound next week against Boston College on Sept. 2. While a loss to start the season is never welcomed, the Seminoles are still very much alive in the ACC Championship and 12-team College Football Playoff race.

Weird stuff happens early in college football seasons, it's amazing people still get surprised. Ohio State had a weird early loss awhile back and still won the championship that year.

When FSU signed DJU, that should have been a sign for FSU fans that the Seminoles were desperate. DJU needs a strong supporting cast because he does not have the ability to put the team on his shoulders in a close game and win. BTW, the loss against GT today is an example why FSU was not in the NCAAFB Playoff last year...
