Shohei Ohtani has made history by joining the exclusive 40-40 club, becoming only the sixth player in Major League Baseball to achieve this milestone.

He reached this feat in a thrilling way, hitting a walk-off grand slam during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ohtani's 40th home run of the season came in the bottom of the ninth inning, with the game tied at 3-3 and the bases loaded. His powerful hit sailed into right-center field, just clearing the glove of a Rays outfielder.

“One of my top memorable moments,” Ohtani said through interpreter Will Ireton afterwards, according to MLB.com. “I hope that I can do more and make more memorable moments.”

This grand slam not only secured a 7-3 victory for the Los Angeles Dodgers but also marked a significant personal achievement for Ohtani, who completed the 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in just 126 games—faster than any player before him.

“It’s just storybook – 40-40 on the same night,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, per ESPN . “I don’t know if that’s ever been done and then he wins it with a grand slam. He’s definitely known for the dramatics, and this was something I’ll remember for a long time.”

This accomplishment adds to Ohtani's impressive resume, especially as he becomes the first player in Dodgers history to reach the 40-40 milestone.

While he is currently recovering from elbow surgery and is not expected to pitch again until 2025, his batting performance has been instrumental in leading the Dodgers to the best record in the league.

Ohtani's unique skill set continues to set him apart, demonstrating that he remains a key player even while sidelined from pitching duties.
