The Boston Red Sox dropped the second of three games to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a game that saw very little positive moments for Boston.

Kutter Crawford had a fine outing but the offense was unable to wake up and the bullpen gave up multiple late runs.

What are the main takeaways from Boston's game two loss to Arizona?

Eugenio Suarez continues to hit Boston pitching well

The Arizona slugger mashed Red Sox pitching for the second straight night after going 3-for-5 in the first game with five RBIs. Suarez started the Diamondbacks’ scoring off with a two-run double in the fourth inning that scored Joc Pederson and Josh Bell.

Those two runs gave Arizona an early lead and they never looked back. The Red Sox will have to stop Suarez from continuing his reign of terror tomorrow as they look to salvage the series.

Zac Gallen got the best of the Red Sox offense

Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen had his way with the Boston lineup, hurling six scoreless innings and allowing just two hits. The Red Sox were unable to capitalize on any of his four walks and were struck out nine total times.

The team’s trend of solid performances against opposing aces was ended in dominant fashion by Gallen and they could not find any sort of rhythm to get in the driver’s seat despite a solid outing by Kutter Crawford.

Kutter Crawford threw the ball decently well

His start was capped at just 88 pitches through five two-run innings, but Kutter Crawford pitched fairly well in the loss. Two of the three hits he allowed were in the Arizona breakthrough two-run fourth inning and he limited hard contact well.

His ERA still sits at 4.22 on the year with his string of recent poor performances. As has been the unfortunate reality in recent weeks, when the Red Sox pitching staff finally gives the team a viable chance to win, the offense fails to deliver and the bullpen can’t keep it close late.

The Red Sox are now 67-61 on the season.

    Game 3

The final game of the Boston Red Sox series against the Arizona Diamondbacks is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 PM EST at Fenway Park, televised on NESN and MLB Network.
