FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys closed their preseason slate Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers . After extended time on the West Coast, the team returns to the confines of AT&T Stadium.

Quarterback Trey Lance has played the majority of the Cowboys' preseason action, but finally got his first official start with the Star affixed to his helmet.

Lance has seen some passing struggles in his third preseason appearance, but his legs continue to be a reliable and potent weapon. He salvaged several drives with some scrambles, but broke away for a 46-yard touchdown run.

The score brought the Cowboys within a 20-16 margin, though the Cowboys failed the following two-point conversion. The run provided a strong answer after confusing red zone interception on the previous possession.

When he gets into the open field, its clear how Lance remains a valued piece in this quarterback room. His speed sets him apart within this group despite some shortcomings with his reads and passing acumen.

It appears the Cowboys are committed to Lance as the backup to Dak Prescott for this season. His performance in the last two weeks has uplifted some of those concerns though he certainly has more room to grow.
