Jahan Dotson is heading into the third season of his NFL career — this time with a new team.

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired Dotson in a trade with the division-rival Washington Commanders on Thursday, adding him as a tertiary wide receiver option behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Dotson put up impressive rookie numbers after the Commanders selected him with a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The former Penn State star regressed slightly in Year 2, reeling in 49 catches for 518 yards and four touchdowns through 17 games this past season.

Dotson said he was "shocked" by the trade decision, but understands it's part of the NFL business. The 24-year-old wideout said he won't take anything personally until the Eagles face off against his former team in Week 11.

"I talked to coach Dan Quinn and Mr. Adam Peters and they told me they think very highly of me," Dotson said. "It was kind of just something that happens, you know. These things happen all the time in the NFL. I'm not going to take it personal until I see Washington."

Dotson was already on the sideline for the Eagles during their preseason matchup against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. He addressed media for the first time since the trade postgame.

"I'm excited to be here," Dotson said. "I can't wait to put on the black and green, and I can't wait to get to work."

The Eagles will face off against the Commanders in a primetime Thursday Night Football matchup on Nov. 14. The division rivals will meet for another matchup in Week 16.
