Yu Darvish has returned to the San Diego Padres after spending over a month on the restricted list for personal reasons.

He rejoined his teammates just in time to witness the Padres secure a 7-0 victory against the New York Mets.

Darvish's absence was marked by a series of injuries and personal matters. He first went on the injured list in April due to neck tightness, missing two weeks.

After a brief return in May, he faced another setback in June with a groin injury, which was followed by elbow inflammation that delayed his comeback.

In July, Darvish opted for the restricted list, a choice he made because he felt it was inappropriate to collect a salary while not actively participating with the team. Unlike players on the injured list, those on the restricted list do not receive pay while away.

“It was my decision to be on the restricted list,” Darvish said, via Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune . “At that point in time, it was difficult for me to go on the road and be with the team in that way. Plus, I thought it was wrong to be on the IL and collect salary during that time, too.”

Now back with the Padres, Darvish still has work to do before he can pitch in a game this season. He threw a bullpen session at Petco Park, completing 27 pitches, but the next steps regarding live batting practice or a rehab assignment are still undecided.

This season, Darvish has made 11 starts, recording a 4-3 record with a 3.20 ERA and 53 strikeouts. His return coincides with that of fellow starter Joe Musgrove, who has also recently come back from injury.

The Padres are eager to have both pitchers back in the rotation as they push for a playoff spot.
