The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 24-17 loss on the road in Detroit against the Lions on Saturday ... A game that the Steelers led 14-0 in the first quarter.

Quarterback Russell Wilson was in the game for the opening drive leading the team 60 yards in five plays for a touchdown. Two big chunk plays made it happen.

A 31-yard strike on the boundary from Wilson to receiver George Pickens put the Steelers at the Lions 29-yard line. Following a two-yard loss on the next play, running back Cordarrelle Patterson rumbled 31 yards into the end zone for the touchdown.

Following a turnover on Detroit’s first drive, quarterback Justin Fields took over and led the Steelers 35 yards in six plays for another touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

The Steelers were only able to muster a field goal in the third quarter. The Lions would score 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull out the win 24-10.

Neither quarterback played a whole lot, so its hard to discern who should or shouldn’t be the starting quarterback headed into the season.

Following the game, coach Mike Tomlin said that he would announce the starter later this week.

“We’ll make a decision at the end of our work week,” Tomlin said. “This upcoming week, we have three days of Steelers vs. Steelers work, and why not do it then? It kind of minimizes the Steelers vs. Steelers work when we start making decisions prior to the completion of that.

“We’ve got ample time to prepare for Atlanta and make whatever decisions or announcements regarding divisional labor or pecking orders and so forth. So, we will do it at the end of the work week.”

The Steelers take to the road in Week 1 to open their season against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Sept 8. ... with the decision clock ticking.
