Sabrina Ionescu’s Strong Warning to WNBA After Liberty's Loss to Sun

The New York Liberty saw their eight-game winning streak hit a dead end on Saturday after losing to the Connecticut Sun, 72-64, at Barclays Center.

The Liberty absorbed their first defeat to the Sun in four meetings this season. They had an anemic performance, shooting 21% from long range and committing 19 turnovers.

While forward Breanna Stewart had a strong double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds, guard Sabrina Ionescu struggled with her 12 points, shooting 3-of-13 from the field. She returned from a two-game absence due to a neck injury.

Liberty coach Sandy Brondello admitted after the game that they didn't have their "usual flow."

Frustrated from the loss and her poor showing, Ionescu made a strong vow that should also serve as a stern warning to the rest of the WNBA.

“I can promise you we’re not gonna have a game like that again,” the three-time All-Star said in a report from New York Post's Andrew Crane .

The 26-year-old playmaker, however, also gave credit to the Sun's newest weapon, Marina Mabrey. Acquired before the trade deadline, Mabrey came off the bench and finished with a team-high 15 points on top of five rebounds and four assists.

"She’s able to kind of attract so much on the offensive end in terms of what she’s capable of doing," Ionescu said. "Her passing ability, how much gravity she draws just as a player.”

Despite the loss, the Liberty are still atop the team standings with a 25-5 record. The Sun are not too far behind with a 22-7 card.

Ionescu and the rest of the Liberty will aim to bounce back this Monday against the Phoenix Mercury.
