Top-graded Vikings in preseason win over Eagles

The Minnesota Vikings wrapped up the preseason on Saturday with a 26-3 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Of course, with the deadline for rosters to be cut to 53 on Tuesday afternoon, it was a huge game for several players and a few stood out.

Here’s a look at the top-graded Vikings in the final preseason game, according to Pro Football Focus.

    Offense

    • QB Jaren Hall — 85.2
    • LT David Quessenberry — 71.7
    • RG Tyrese Robinson — 70.3
    • C Michael Jurgens — 68.9
    • RB DeWayne McBride — 68.1
    • RB Myles Gaskin — 66.0
    • WR Trent Sherfield Sr. — 64.3
    • TE N’Keal Harry — 63.8
    • RT Doug Nester — 63.5
    • RB Mohamed Ibrahim — 62.3

Meanwhile, the lowest-graded Vikings offensively were LG Spencer Rolland (40.6), C Matthew Cindric (41.7), TE Sammis Reyes (46.0), QB Matt Corral (48.8) and LG Henry Byrd (50.9).

Hall was largely fantastic in the preseason finale. He completed nine of his first 10 passes — and his lone incompletion was just caught out of bounds — en route to a line of 17/25 for 189 yards and two touchdowns.

WR Lucky Jackson feels like the only guy who may be surprisingly out of the top 10-graded players, as he led the team with four catches for 53 yards but he also failed to bring in a couple along the sidelines. In the end, he still had a solid showing and should be a practice squad guy for Minnesota if another team doesn’t claim him, as could many of the guys listed above, including Corral, Harry, Robinson, Jurgens and McBride.

    Defense

    • DT Jalen Redmond — 90.1
    • ED Owen Porter — 82.5
    • DB Jay Ward — 81.7
    • ED Jihad Ward — 81.4
    • LB Brian Asamoah II — 80.3
    • CB Dwight McGlothern — 80.1
    • CB Duke Shelley — 76.9
    • LB Dallas Gant — 76.2
    • LB Jordan Kunaszyk — 72.6
    • CB Nahshon Wright — 72.4

On the other hand, the lowest-graded Vikings defenders were CB Akayleb Evans (36.9), DT Levi Drake Rodriguez (38.6), S Lewis Cine (40.8), DT Jaquelin Roy (47.9) and DT Taki Taimani (54.3).

Evans, Cine and Roy all seemed to be on the outside of the roster crunch looking in before the game and may have sealed their fate on Saturday, whether that results in being cut or traded.

Drake Rodriguez still seems to have a shot and was active, despite the poor grade.

Meanwhile, several other bubble guys really made a strong final case for a roster spot, including Redmond, Porter, Ward, McGlothern and Asamoah. I think only a couple of them make the 53-man but the Vikings would surely like to keep the rest on the practice squad if they make it through waivers.

The Vikings have some tough decisions to make ahead of the 3 p.m. Tuesday deadline to have rosters trimmed to 53.

The good news is we’re now just two weeks away from the start of the Vikings’ regular season!
