Knicks Should Steer Clear of Dwight Howard

The New York Knicks lost Isaiah Hartenstein to free agency earlier this offseason, so getting some center depth could be on the team's agenda.

One name that has been tossed around for the Knicks to sign is veteran center Dwight Howard . But, that might not be the best use of the team's last roster spot, as it has been a bit since he played in the NBA.

Howard currently plays for the Taiwan Mustangs of The Asian Tournament, and it looks like he is having the time of his life. The veteran big man is even shooting three-pointers, and he is always trying to recruit players to come to Taiwan to join him.

He has been playing well, and that has led some people to believe he should come back to the NBA. But there are multiple reasons why the Knicks, and all other teams should be very hesitant when it comes to Howard.

He is going to be 39 years old in December, which would make him one of the top five oldest players in the league. He has not played in the league since the 2021-22 season when he averaged just six points per game with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Knicks will be hoping that Mitchell Robinson can stay healthy this season because taking a chance on a 38-year-old Howard is a bit too risky for a team looking to be one of the best teams in the league this season. Despite the insistence that Howard can be a quality NBA player, the Knicks are a serious team this season and don't have the luxury of making signings that are little more than publicity stunts.
