In a recent interview with EuroHoops ' Cesare Milanti, Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki shed light on his current relationship with the franchise and shared his thoughts on the team's superstar, Luka Doncic. The Hall of Famer, who holds the title of "special advisor" with the Mavericks, downplayed the significance of his role within the organization.

Nowitzki explained, "Advisor is an interesting word, I'm not advising that much." He went on to describe his involvement as more casual, noting that while he maintains open communication with head coach Jason Kidd, he doesn't monitor practice daily or involve himself in day-to-day operations. The German basketball icon suggested that the term "advisor" might be overstating his actual duties.

The conversation also touched on the intriguing possibility of Doncic teaming up with Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic. Nowitzki expressed hope that such a pairing would occur in Dallas, though he acknowledged the unlikelihood of this scenario. He praised both players as among the best in the world, highlighting their mutual respect and genuine friendship.

Nowitzki reiterated his desire to see Doncic remain with the Mavericks for the long haul, ideally finishing his career in Dallas. He also took a moment to commend Jokic's passionate play style and remarkable skill set for a big man.

Reflecting on Doncic's arrival in Dallas, Nowitzki shared his early impressions of the Slovenian prodigy. Despite initial uncertainty about how Doncic's EuroLeague success would translate to the NBA, Nowitzki recalled being immediately impressed by the young star's feel for the game during their one overlapping season.

While Doncic continues to build his own legacy in Dallas, he has a long way to go to match Nowitzki's illustrious career. The German superstar's resume includes 14 All-Star selections, 12 All-NBA nods, an MVP award, and a crucial role in bringing an NBA championship to Dallas in 2011.
