Angel Reese stuffed the stat sheet yet again on Sunday as the Chicago Sky suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Las Vegas Aces, 77-75. Despite a monster 11-point, 22-rebound double-double from Reese, the Sky still fell short against the two-time defending champions as Chicago logged their third straight defeat.
It was MVP frontrunner A'ja Wilson who emerged as the hero in this one thanks to her last-second shot to end the game. With the score tied at 75-75 and just 1.1 seconds remaining on the clock, Wilson made sure that this contest would not require an overtime period.
For her part, Reese did all she could to battle the two-time WNBA MVP down low. In fact, Reese proved on multiple occasions that she could hack it against one of the top centers in the game today.
In one particular sequence, the Sky rookie secured no less than four straight offensive boards against Wilson and pretty much the rest of the Aces players on the court. It was quite an effort from the 22-year-old.
This video has, unsurprisingly, blown up online, picking up 3.1 million views as of writing.
While some fans were left in awe by Reese's rebounding prowess here, more than a few others could not help but call the former LSU superstar out for not passing the ball to one of her open teammates when she had multiple opportunities to do so.
"2 ppl wide open at the 3 and she keep going up šš" read a comment.
"4 defenders on her and not once did she think to pass it out for the three. This is selfish basketball ā ļø" said another.
"Angel Reese most selfish player in the league. Calls for ball on every possession, couldnāt throw a rock into the ocean, and refuses to pass. Just look at the teammate in the corner begging for the ball," said a viewer.
Some of the criticism even went as far as claiming that Reese intentionally misses her shots to improve her stats.
"Stat padding in a losing effort. less than 30% fg... how do players play around her if she never passes the ball back out, just keeps throwing up bricks?" a user commented.
"Insane stat padding," concluded another.
"She missing on purpose idc what yāall say š" a viewer said.
"All her rebounds is from her not being able to score right underneath the rim š¤£ well at least she gets them back I guess š¤·āāļø" reacted another.
Love her or hate her, you can't really discredit Reese for a lack of hustle here. Be that as it may, her individual stats aren't going to change the fact that Chicago is now in the midst of a brutal losing slump.
