The Detroit Tigers secured a 9-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox, marking the White Sox's 100th loss of the season.

This defeat puts Chicago on track for one of the worst records in modern baseball history, with projections suggesting they could finish with 123 losses, surpassing the infamous 1962 Mets.

The Tigers turned the game around in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to take control. They have now won three consecutive games and 10 of their last 13, bringing their record to 65-66. A win in Monday's series finale would put them at .500 for the first time since June 5.

"It's important," manager A.J. Hinch said . "It's the next goal. Once you accomplish that, if we can do that, then we will reset the goals. That's not what we want to be, and the season is not over, if and when we can get to that mark, but I think it's important that we keep everything in perspective. Everybody is chipping away at doing their part because we do want to have a winning team. That matters to this group."

In the pivotal fifth inning, the Tigers capitalized on a shaky performance from White Sox pitcher Jonathan Cannon. Kerry Carpenter, Colt Keith, and Jace Jung all hit singles, with Jung tying the game at 3-3.

Spencer Torkelson then walked to load the bases, leading to Cannon's exit. Pinch-hitter Andy Ibañez drove in a run with a groundout, giving the Tigers a 4-3 lead. Trey Sweeney followed with an RBI single, extending the lead to 5-3.

The Tigers continued to build their lead in the seventh inning. After two quick outs, Torkelson reached on an infield single, setting the stage for Ibañez, who hit a two-run homer, making the score 7-3. In the eighth, Keith added a two-run double, bringing the final score to 9-4.

On the mound, Beau Brieske started for the Tigers but struggled early, allowing two runs in the first inning.

He was replaced by Bryan Sammons, who pitched effectively for 4⅓ innings. The White Sox managed to score again in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback.

With their recent success, the Tigers are looking to continue their momentum as they head into the final game of the series.
