Five-star safety Jonah Williams has chosen to play for Texas, turning down the USC Trojans along with offers from LSU, Texas A&M, and Oregon.

Williams, who plans to play both football and baseball, is set to begin his college career as a safety for the Longhorns.

"It's 50-50, baseball and football," he told ESPN of committing to Texas. "The opportunities [at Texas] with life after football were part of my choice. The coaching staff really made me feel comfortable about my decision."

As the top-ranked safety in the 2025 recruiting class, in the ESPN 300 . Williams had been one of the few five-star recruits yet to commit until this announcement.

He previously visited several schools, including USC , where he toured on June 2, 2024, and made his final visit to Texas on July 25.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 205 pounds, Williams is known for his versatility as an athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. During the 2023 season at Ball High School, he made significant contributions on offense, defense, and special teams.

He caught 20 passes for 474 yards and eight touchdowns, rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns, and recorded 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and four interceptions—three of which he returned for touchdowns.

Additionally, he returned four kicks for touchdowns and earned accolades as his district's Defensive Player of the Year in his junior year.

While USC missed out on Williams, they still have a strong prospect in Julian Lewis, the second overall player in the 2025 class. The quarterback from Carrollton, Georgia, had an impressive 2023 season, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 48 touchdowns.
