Ex-Summer League Teammate Reveals Unusual Detail About Bronny James

    By Michael Gallagher,

Wherever Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James goes, he draws a crowd.

Because of his last name (his father is NBA star LeBron James), the 19-year-old point guard has been one of the more polarizing figures in the NBA since the Lakers drafted him 55th overall back in June.

Many people appear to be highly invested in Bronny’s comings and goings, which would seem to explain an off incident former teammate Kyle Mangas — now with the Indiana Pacers on an Exhibit 10 deal — recalled when he played with the younger James during the NBA Summer League.

“There’s so much media surrounding him,” Mangas told AHN Fire Digital . “We would get off the bus at our hotel, and there’d be 250 people waiting for him to get off just to film and walk into the hotel. You’ve got to feel for a kid like that, there’s just a lot of pressure and publicity, and that’s hard to get away from sometimes. [I] think he handled it pretty well from what I saw.”

While previous reports of preferential treatment for Bronny have been disputed by several in the Lakers’ organization, it’s easy to understand why the team would surround the USC alum with as many people as possible to help him succeed considering the microscope his drafting put them under.

After an underwhelming series of performances in the Summer League, Bronny will start the season in the G League — a demotion he seems more than OK with.
