Though not new, the latest edition of NBA 2K has been debated, especially on social media. Many fans have voiced concerns over certain players' ratings, which are too high for some names or too low for others.

While most of these discussions revolve around overall ratings, a defensive comparison has caught the eye, leaving many of us bewildered. In what may draw strong reactions from multiple sides, Luka Doncic has been defensively rated higher than Ty Lue's crew of Nicolas Batum, Ivica Zubac, and Terance Mann.

So what, what's the point of contention? A generational talent, Luka Magic is a superstar in the making, known for his multifaceted skill set. However, the defense doesn't come to mind when discussing the reigning scoring champion. On the other hand, Batum, Zubac, and Mann are solid contributors when it comes to protecting the Clippers' rim.

A statistical look at the comparison between Luka Doncic and the Clippers trio

NBA 2K25's2K25's inaugural ratings give Doncic a 68 on defense. Now, talking about the defensive scorecards of some players on the Ballmer franchise, Batum is 63, Zubac is 54, and Mann is 56. Though not at the same level as the Mavericks superstar, these three players enjoy a good reputation when shielding the route to their basket.

While statistics might tilt in favor of Luka, one may need to dig a little deeper to understand his defensive impact. The former plays for a team where he is the sole initiator of running operations, giving him the privilege of having the ball most of the time.

This isn't different from Batum, Zubac, or Mann, who have limitations in this case, given their role on the team. Not to forget, Doncic led the league in turnovers this season , averaging 4.0 per game. Hence, there are doubts over the Slovenian sensation's defensive capabilities.

Well, there is a reason why the likes of an NBA legend like Charles Barkley have repeatedly stated his disapproval of analytics subjects.
