The 2024 college football season began in Ireland with a massive upset. Georgia Tech defeated Florida State on a last-second field goal, sparking plenty of reactions.

The Seminoles entered the season as a top-25 team and one of the favorites in the ACC. However, their season got off on the wrong foot with a loss and more questions.

As such, it could end up being a loss that keeps Florida State out of ACC contention and out of the expanded College Football playoff spot altogether.

While there is plenty of bad news for Florida State after the loss, On3's college football analyst J.D. Pickell mentions why there is some good news for the Seminoles.

"There's bad news and there's good news," Pickell said. "The bad news is you're 0-1 in conference play...The good news is, this is not 2007. This is not the BCS era. Florida State, let's be real, they could lose another game. They could lose two games...If they win all their games in the ACC and they go win the ACC title, I think they will be in the College Football Playoff...Everything that Florida State wants to do is still very much in front of them."

It was a brutal loss for Florida State, especially with all of the hype after they missed out on the College Football Playoff last season.

While there are plenty of reasons to panic, Pickell insists they aren't done just yet and still have a path to an ACC title.

The Seminoles have a tough schedule this season, with games against Clemson, Duke, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Florida, with four of those being ACC battles.

As Pickell said, even if they lose another game or two, there is a path for them to get to the ACC title game. On the other hand, another loss to a team they are favored to beat could be the end of that conversation.

Florida State next faces Boston College and Memphis, then ACC games against newcomers Cal and SMU before facing Clemson.

While things got more difficult for Florida State, Pickell insists the path is still possible.
